Eurosport Player

by Administrator 6. august 2013 21:05

Hi all

I wouldn’t call me a snooker fan as such, but I am fond of the game (a crappy player of it, though) and I do watch when it is transmitted on TV.

In Denmark, this means watching Eurosport, and my cable TV provided only provides Eurosport and not Eurosport 2 unfortunately.

Luckily, Eurosport have made apps for different platforms and luckily for me, they have recently released apps for both XBox and the Samsung Smart TV platform. I own both! :-)

The player has the big big advantage over watching the Eurosport channel on the TV that the player shows all the content that is recorded but doesn’t get shown on TV. So for instance, during the world championships for snooker, the cameras are pointed at the table at all times, so whenever nothing is shown on either TV channel I can just use the player :-)

And what’s even more good news is that I just got an email from Eurosport today stating that they have released an app for Windows Phone (The best smart phone OS built, IMO). So thumbs-up for that. I haven’t been able to find it in the Store yet, but it’ll probably be there in a day or two.

So what I am now missing is an app for Windows RT – THAT would be awesome! :-)

That’s it for now, I think…

Stay safe and take care of each other :-)

Status update

by Administrator 31. juli 2013 23:25

Hi all

Well, this is the first blog post since September 17’th 2011. A lot has happened since then, which I will just summarize here and then maybe I will get the time to write more posts :-)

First of all, I am now divorced and have been since March 2012. My two kids (Now 9 and 7 years old) are with me 5 days every 14 days. It’s not nearly as much time as I would like to spend with them, but it’s more time than a lot of single fathers get with their kids. I try to make the best of it. I decided to stay in the house I owned with my x-wife – mainly because it was nice to have the kids come home to a house and neighborhood they know when they are staying with me.

Work-related, I am still employed the same place – only we got bought and I am now working at CGI. It’s the same job, same colleagues, same location… .just a new company name :-) I have been at the company for almost 10 years all together now. The first time was 4 years and two months and this time around it’s been 5 years and 4 months.

Being divorced, I suddenly had some time on my hands, so I started playing pool again. I joined my old club (Fast Eddies Pool Club, based here in Aalborg) and was the extra player in 2. division in 2012. This mainly meant that if a regular player on one of the teams was unable to play a game, I stepped in. I’m proud to say that even after almost 10 years away from the game, I won about 50% of my matches. It was really great to play the game again – I always did love to play pool. This season (2013) I chose not to play in the club, but to simply play whenever I feel like it. Perhaps in 2014 I will join the club again…

I have also started to loose some weight – It’s actually quite simple to loose weight:

  • I skipped all the candy and cake which meant a lot :-)
  • 3 times a week I do 24 minutes on an Elliptical trainer and then some weight lifting afterwards
  • 2-3 times a week I go for a 6,5km walk in the evening
  • I still ride my bike for 35 minutes to work and 35 minutes home from work on all work days

On the more technical side, I am growing quite fond of my Windows Phone 8 smart phone. I don’t care what anyone says – I believe this is the best OS to be using! :-) And I also have Windows 8 on my laptop and I have a Windows 8 RT tablet. The way everything works together – phone, laptop, xbox, tablet – all using Skydrive and outlook.com – It’s just a great experience.

I lost my MVP status this year, sadly. I was awarded the MVP title in July 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. This time around I didn’t make the cut – but that was rather expected… My time was spent doing other stuff than helping the community – now I’ll just have to consider whether I want to work at getting it back or just skip it.

That’s it for now, I think…

Stay safe and take care of each other :-)

Running once again

by Administrator 7. august 2011 13:50

Hi all

My achilles tendon is still aching and my knees have begun to hurt as well… But I am still running regularly (3 times a week) and today I made it to 9.58km in 50 minutes. Definitely not as fast as I used to be, but it feels great to be running again.

I am only running on a thread mill in order to try to not be mean to the achilles tendon. It can get boring to run on a thread mill, but it is better than nothing. I have bought a music system so I can listen to music while I am running and I am using my Garmin Forerunner 305 to measure pulse while running.

I have also started using Endomondo – you can find my account at http://www.endomondo.com/profile/390235.

Fitness

by Administrator 19. juli 2011 11:17

Hi all

So… finally… I joined a gym again. just went there this morning for the first time in 3 years or so.

I ran 2,5-3km with an average speed of 10,6km/h – I need to take it slow because I have some pain in one of my Achilles tendons which is bugging me.

Hopefully I will keep up training and get back into shape… or at least partly! Smile

New blog URLs

by eliasen 14. juli 2011 17:46

Hi all

In my previous post I wrote that I would be creating a couple of new blogs. I have given that some thought and I have consolidated further and have come up with these two blogs:

http://blogs.eliasen.dk/personal which is my personal blog. I have moved all posts from http://jan.eliasen.dk to this new blog. The new RSS feed is: http://blogs.eliasen.dk/personal/syndication.axd – please update your feeds.

http://blogs.eliasen.dk/technical which is my technical blog. I have moved all posts from http://blog.eliasen.dk to this new blog. The new RSS feed is: http://blogs.eliasen.dk/technical/syndication.axd – please update your feeds.

Also, there is a new blog at http://blogs.eliasen.dk – this will simply consist of posts regarding how the http://blogs.eliasen.dk blog subdomain evolves, ie. updates to blog software and so on. Follow this at the RSS feed at http://blogs.eliasen.dk/syndication.axd

If anything isn’t working, please let me know!

My blogs will move

by eliasen 12. juli 2011 22:23

Hi all

Because the very new BlogEngine.NET supports multiple blogs in one installation, I have decided to consolidate my blogs into http://blogs.eliasen.dk/ where I will be creating an http://blogs.eliasen.dk/personal for this blog, an http://blogs.eliasen.dk/biztalk for my BizTalk blog and a brand new blog at http://blogs.eliasen.dk/azure for my findings with Azure.

This means that anyone following this blog using RSS should redirect their RSS readers to point to http://blogs.eliasen.dk/Personal/syndication.axd instead.

Thanks. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I am Danish!

by eliasen 8. juni 2011 20:22

Hi all

I just took the test that you need to pass to become a citizen in Denmark – find it here: http://www.b.dk/helpers/quiz/?id=188

Luckily I passed (just) so I can stay Danish Smile

Some of the questions were really easy, but some were just plain guesses and some of them went well. I got 33 correct out of 40 and you need 32 to pass.

Phew.

12½ years with my wife

by eliasen 5. juni 2011 23:39

Hi all

Yesterday my wife and I celebrated having been together for 12½ years.

In Denmark we celebrate it when people have been married for 12½ years so we thought we’d celebrate it a bit since we have now been together for 12½ years. There’s still almost 5 years until we have been married for 12½ years, but time sure is running Smile

Anyways, we went to Fårup Sommerland, which is a Danish amusement park and had a great time there.

Fårup Sommerland

by eliasen 8. maj 2011 21:59

Hi all

Yesterday Fårup Sommerland (http://www.faarupsommerland.dk/) opened up for this season. We are lucky to have season tickets so we decided to go there for the opening.

It was a great trip. Andreas (6 years old) has no trouble laughing his way through the worst and most horrible amusement rides. Emil is a bit more careful and stays in the children’s area with smaller more slow amusement rides Smile

The park itself is great. Lots of rides, large ice creams, huge aqua park which opens in June, and a large area with grills that are free to use to grill your own food.

We are probably going next weekend again Smile

A trip to Sweden

by eliasen 11. september 2010 01:17

Hi all

So I spent Wednesday and Thursday in this week in Sweden, which was a strange experience.

First of all, even though our languages are actually quite similar, I don’t understand a single word.

Secondly, even though Sweden are bragging that they are the country in the world where the most people have the fastest broadband internet connections (or something like that) they still have a very primitive way to handle train passengers that have bought a 10-ticket-strip. You need to go to an employee and get a manual stamp on the piece of paper.

And finally, a weird experience was when I got out of the airport in Stockholm and needed a cab to take me to my hotel. Funny thing was that there were cabs in 5 lines and the cab drivers from all the front row cabs and even some of the cabs in the second row were all shouting to make me choose that particular cab. I hate that – several people wanting me to choose them and having to reject some of them. And I wonder why on earth the cab drivers from the cabs in the second row were also shouting. I mean… their cabs couldn’t even get out! In Denmark, if you try to get in a cab that is not the cab that was first on the scene, the cab driver will tell you to go to the cab that was first on the scene. They make sure internally that cabs get customers in the same order the cabs arrived in.
